It’s not wise to wake a sleeping giant, especially when it’s the U.S. Military

“I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve.”

It’s believed this statement was made by the Imperial 250px-Isoroku_YamamotoJapanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto following Japan’s Imperial Navy’s attack on Pearl Harbor which took place on December 7, 1941.

An attack which killed 2,403 Americans and left 1,178 injured.

Regardless if the Japanese admiral really said it, that statement in itself couldn’t have been more true.

Following the deadly attack, the United States entered World War II.

bombOn August 6, 1945, the U.S. dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan; three days later, dropping another on Nagasaki, Japan.  As a result of the catastrophic impact both bombings caused, the Japanese Empire surrendered on August 15, 1945.

The pain and loss which took place on December 7, 1941 will forever “live in infamy”.

However, as Japan discovered in the 1940’s, and the Taliban knows all too well today, it’s best not to disturb a sleeping giant. We Remember

Today, we honor the memory of those who lost their lives that day, and those who lost sons and daughters, husbands and wives, brothers and sisters, and close friends.

As we always say here at Caring Hands, there are no words which could accurately portray the deep level of gratitude we have for those who choose to sacrifice their lives to protect their nation’s freedom and security.

My God bless those who have gone before us and all those who actively serve today.
